I have this problem quite often and I thought that maybe I was a slow learner, but often I find myself trying to piece together what words the person actually said. Especially if they lower their head, or are far away. In school, I learned through reading as I was awful at paying attention in class. Hearing loss never occurred to me until I read your article.
